Welcome to another enlightening video brought to you by Latoison Law in association with Commentary Creations. I am Enrique Latoison, your “Three Minute Lawyer,” eager to discuss an exciting topic today – the journey to becoming an attorney. As a practicing criminal defense attorney in Media, PA, I find myself fielding this question quite often. It gives me immense pleasure to mentor budding legal aspirants, those students eager to step into the fascinating world of law. I am here to guide you through your journey, dissecting it into three parts for a comprehensive understanding.
Firstly, we’ll address how to get into law school, discussing prerequisites and preparation. Secondly, we’ll delve into what happens once you are inside the hallowed halls of law school. Lastly, we’ll explore the often daunting step of what to do once you graduate. All these stages pose challenging questions that we’ll answer to the best of our ability.
Joining us today is Caileigh Maull, a recent graduate preparing for her LSAT (Law School Admissions Test). We’ll chat with her about her preparation process, shedding light on some of the steps you might need to consider.
The question of which major to pursue for a future legal career often baffles many. It was simpler a few decades ago when a pre-law degree was the norm. However, times have changed, and law schools now appreciate diversity in academic backgrounds. Of course, proficiency in English, reading, and understanding complex narratives are fundamental skills for any aspiring lawyer. Additionally, courses like history, government, and political science can prove beneficial.
Once you’ve graduated with a decent GPA – ideally a 3.2 or higher – the next step is preparing for the LSAT. This standardized test is a prerequisite for admission to law schools in the U.S. and Canada.
Today, we’ll be focusing on this crucial transition period after earning your bachelor’s degree. We’ll discuss how to prepare for the LSAT, leveraging insights from Caileigh Maull, who’s currently in the throes of her preparation.
In wrapping up, remember every step, from your undergraduate degree to the LSAT and law school, moves you closer to your goal. As a criminal defense attorney in Media, PA, I can attest to the journey’s challenges and rewards. Stay tuned for the next parts of this series. I’m Enrique Latoison, Your 3 Minute Lawyer, signing off.
